Species

Welcome to our first Star Wars Roleplaying Game Review! While reviews like this can’t cover everything between the covers, they can give you some of the highlights (and lowlights) found in this Saga Edition Supplement. Like the other campaign guides so far published for SE, first out of the gate in The Clone Wars is Species.

Perhaps never before has your character’s Species meant as much as it does during the Clone wars; with the Republic in turmoil and planets seceding left and right, the species you choose could also choose who you fight for, or who wants to fight you!

A special event for the fans

Georgia State University Athletics will be hosting MS Society Night on January 17, 2009 during one of their men’s basketball games. The 501st, Georgia Garrison and Rebel Legion will be in attendance, including Darth Vader, Stormtroopers, Jedi Masters, and many other Imperial and Rebel characters. This fun Sci-Fi event will help benefit the MS Society as a portion of all ticket sales will go directly to the charity.

The National MS Society is a collection of passionate individuals who want to do something about MS now – to move together towards a world free of multiple sclerosis.

Men's basketball has been working with the MS Society for this night for a while. In an effort to attract more attention to the game and MS Night, they started working with the 501st Georgia Garrison. If you've never had the opportunity to see the 501st in action, you won't want to miss seeing them live and in person.

So get on out there, enjoy some basketball and some Sci-Fi fun, and help support the National MS Society this coming weekend!

Anyone interested in attending the event can purchase tickets in advance at georgiastatesports.com or by calling the Ticket Office at 1-866-GA-STATE. The Sports Arena is located at 125 Decatur Street in Atlanta, Georgia 30303.You can find a map and details of the event in our Event list.

Play Star Wars Miniatures Online - Part 1
Written by Chuck
Thursday, 18 December 2008 17:11

Ever have one of those days when you'd really like to play some Star Wars Miniatures but didn't have anyone to play against? Or maybe it's just that your friends or family all live too far away for you to put together a game. In my case, I have a friend who lives in Nevada and a Brother who lives in the New Orleans area who I would really like to play against, but the distance between us is so great that the odds of that happening are very slim. Actually, that hasn't been the case for quite some time due to the wonderful program Vassal, created by Rodney Kinney, which is available at vassalengine.org

I'm going to explain, in this article, how to setup Vassal on your system so that you can play against others, at any time of the day, no matter where they live.

First of all, Vassal isn't just for Star Wars Miniatures. There are over 100 different games that you can play using Vassal but, for this article, I'm only going to be focusing on Star Wars Miniatures.

--- UPDATE 12/21/08 ---

Nick informs me that the first version of the ZIP file found at the end of this article was corrupted (which is kinda funny in it's own way) so I've created a new and improved version and replaced the original. If you downloaded the first one, you may want to scrap it and go with the latest version. Sorry for the hassle!

Keeping up to date
Written by Chuck
Friday, 12 December 2008 09:15

I've decided to add the RSS feeds for each section of the website so that it's easier than ever to keep up to date with what's going on in our area. You'll notice the RSS icon (RSS Feed Icon) at the top of the pages for which a feed is available.

For those of you who don't yet know it

RSS is an XML-based vocabulary for distributing Web content in opt-in feeds. Feeds allow the user to have new content delivered to a computer or mobile device as soon as it is published. An RSS aggregator or RSS reader allows the user to see summaries of all their feeds in one place. Instead of visiting multiple Web pages to check for new content, the user can look at the summaries and choose which sites to visit for the full versions.

You can find many decent RSS readers online and, chances are, you already have one installed on your system. If you use Firefox, you can subscribe to RSS feeds using Live Bookmarks.

For ease of use, I've put an RSS link to each section at the top of their respective areas. Here is a list, though, of each section should you choose to subscribe to one or more of the available feeds.

RSS Feed Icon Main Site
RSS Feed Icon Gaming Events
RSS Feed Icon Star Wars Miniatures
RSS Feed Icon Star Wars Customizable Card Game
RSS Feed Icon Star Wars Role Playing Game

Now you can keep up to date on everything going on in our area easily. I hope you find this useful!

I've also created and implemented a number of newsletters, which you can find and subscribe to by following the AtlantaSWG Newsletters link in the main menu. I'll be using the Newsletters to contact the respective groups about upcoming events, or news regarding each particular section so subscribe to whichever lists you are interested in to have new information delivered straight to your inbox.
